Coney Island Mermaid Parade Costume

Date

June 2025

Role

Artist & Sculptor. In collaboration with Caitlin Eder.

Medium

Paper Mache, Acrylic Paint

Award

2nd Place in Sea Creature

For the 2025 Coney Island Mermaid Parade, I collaborated with artist Caitlin Eder to design and construct a large-scale paper mâché clam costume. Built entirely from scratch, the piece was sculpted using traditional paper mâché techniques, then hand-painted with acrylics and adorned with faux pearls to enhance its texture and visual appeal. The costume won 2nd Place in the Sea Creatures category for the 43rd annual parade. Additionally, the costume captivated the parade crowd and drew significant media attention, with features in the New York Post, NY1, and Brooklyn Vegan. The project combined meticulous craftsmanship with bold theatricality, resulting in a standout creation that embodied the imaginative spirit of the event.
